Why I'm interested in ear clipons.

In short, it is because ear piercings didn't work out for me, and I don't want to go through all the fuss of pain, inflammation etc again.

The first time (and only time) I got ear piercings was when I was 18. I was preparing for my high school graduation ceremony outfit, and I wanted to get a pair of earrings to go with my fancy gown, so I went for ear piercings with my friends. We all got briefed about how to care for those new wounds. I did what I was told as much as possible, but still had an unpleasant experience overall.

The first problem comes with my clumsiness. My dormmates would hear my ‘ouch’ when I was: washing, brushing and tying my hair; putting on or taking off clothes; wearing earphones; taking phone calls; rolling in bed… All these small things would pull the small earbuds and trigger some pain or bleeding, slowing the healing process.

At that time I was living in southern China where the temperature outside can reach 38 degrees C (100.4 degrees F), so I got sweated easily. Clumsiness + hot summer then caused inflammation. That further prolonged the time the piercings needed to heal.

After around 3 months, I moved to the UK. The temperature here helped the formation of the pierced holes. The inflammation finally stopped, and the constantly triggered pain finally calmed down. I thought to myself ‘I can finally wear as many lovely earrings as I want!!!’ However, another thing came up: my earlobes would just heal unexpectedly. If I forgot to put anything in the piercings for two weeks or so, putting a pair back the next time would feel like another mini-session of piercing - the skin seemed to just grow back in a matter of weeks TAT!

Therefore, after around 9 months of battle between my body and my love for earrings, I gave in to my earlobes!

I could only do window shopping when I saw those shiny earrings in high-street shops.

Until I visited Japan! I still remember the excitement of seeing a whole wall of ear clip-ons in a high-street shop! Ah! Those lovely shiny pearls and crystals! I can finally wear them myself! I almost went through every accessory shop to hunt for interesting ear clip-ons.(wallet emptied for that for sure!)

When I come back to the UK, I always wonder why similar things are not sold on high streets, and why people are so much into piercings and tattoos. Piercings and tattoos are great and cool, but they don’t work for everybody.

And this blog has been written to send a message: it’s ok if something that works for a lot of people doesn’t work for you, and there must be a way around it. Just like myself, I found those pretty ear clip-ons so I can enjoy wearing earrings without experiencing any pain.

That is also why I sell them in this store - offer an option for people like myself. There are also other sellers out there providing a wider range of clip-ons which might very well match your definition of beauty.

You can also bring the same message to your daughter/son/niece/nephew/grandchildren by gifting them their first pair of earrings, pierce-free ones! So they won’t have to go through what I went through.

We can all experience beauty without getting tortured.

To whoever reads to the end, may you be happy, may you be free, may you be at peace
